As both P. major and P. lujiatunensis are large-skulled among psittacosaur species and were discovered in Lower Cretaceous beds in northeastern China, we breifly compare them to determine if they are synonymous. As P. lujiatunensis is known only from cranial remains, we cannot dettermine if its skull is relatively enlarged as in P. major. Psittacosaurus major, however, differs in clearly visible derived features from P. lujiatunensis. The narrowed dorsal skull roof, for example, is unique to P. major and is not present in P.lujiatunensis or other psittacosaur species. The unusual jugal-quadrate and quadratojugal-squamosal sutural contacts observed in P. lujiatunensis, likewise, are not present in P.major or most other psittacosaur species. We are convinced, therefore, that P. lujiatunensis and P.major represent distinct species within a very speciose genus.

Básicamente otro psitacosaurio de similares proporciones pero con otros caracteres diferentes lo que mantiene a P. major como especie válida...Roberto E.
